Buddy & his mama

Welcome to Sunshine & Ravioli, my own little corner of the internet. Here you’ll find a little bit of everything I love–recipes, crafts, photos, Italy, and things that just make me smile.

My husband and I play house with our two cats, Buddy & Sally, on a quiet, tree-lined street near a park and a little school.  We love to explore the funky little shops and restaurants downtown, get lost on county roads, experiment in the kitchen, and plan dream vacations that we’ll probably never take (when your family lives in another city, and your in-laws live in another country, free weekends and big vacations are pretty much always spent visiting relatives — thank goodness we really love them!).

From writing songs about tangerines & fish bowls with my cousins at the age of 8, to spending spring break of my junior year of high school creating a Civil War-era fashion magazine for extra credit in a class in which I already had an A, I’ve always had an urge to be creative.  My mom says I get it from my grandma (a painter, seamstress, & poet).  For the longest time, I felt like I was just copying things other people did, but lately I can see my own aesthetic taking shape, and I’m excited to share a peek into my life with you!

Some of my favorite things right now: pretty dresses paired with cardigans & jewel-toned tights, an overflowing cookie jar, tiny apples & local pears, clam chowder, lazy Sunday morning kitten cuddles, hexagon quilts, a heartbreakingly good book, leather-trimmed satchels, freshly polished mary-janes, toast with wild plum jelly, shiny red tea kettles, votive candles, intricate braids, and a good cup of coffee.

I’ve loved reading this! Just stumbled upon it.
Haven’t seen you and Flavio for a long time. We would love to meet for lunch or dinner sometime.
    So glad things are well!
And a great, GREAT list of favorite things.

    grande bacio a tutto!

Ciao Ze! Thank you for your sweet comment!

Man, you’ve just reminded me how badly I need to update this blog. So many things have happened recently! We’re actually leaving for Italy in about 13 hours, and as soon as we get back in May, we’re packing up & moving to Lawrence. Flavio got a new job there, with the newspaper.

How are you, Roberto, and Pilar? We absolutely have to get together sometime before we move. We keep meaning to go to Luciano’s, but somehow always have a catastrophe on the way there (most recently, hail damage to my car!). We miss you all!

      Baci! Buona Pasqua!
